Well, it's still progressing, I think Core Team Chat was as lean as it's ever been with some of the guys on holidays, but the important people doing the upgrade path were there and I notice that Mark Hoskins, (Xpdit) has been solving some of the niggly problems. Because I'm not a coder, it would be a bit wrong for me to go into great details, but let's just say that it's being cleaned up to the point where the release will be one fine product.
Alot of the bug testing has been carried out, but will continue because hey - it's software. I see on the forum, there are in general, the similar bugs and problems coming through and I believe most of them have been addressed.
There have been a couple of permission issues and things just not occuring when the upgrade has been carried out from a standard 2.1.2 install. I don't know if they are going to provide a 1.10 upgrade path, but I would think not because 2 was so different to 1, and now 3, well, you might have to incrementally upgrade (not sure if that's the right word but you get the meaning)
I decided that I would upgrade from 1.10 to 2.1.2 and found it went pretty well, but last night tested the upgrade path from 2.1.2 to 3.08 on my site (Locally that is) Ooooh.. not good.... I have to ditch most of my modules and found the image paths were are bit wonky, but only on some areas.
Those with 3.07 are not recommended to try and upgrade a 2.1.2 install unless they have experience becuase the infrastructure hadn't been implemented. I see now the pattern used by the developers in how the proceed to do things and I think as each build grows and the newer, more refined formatting/coding/arcitechture is implemented, it becomes more stable and robust.
I was hoping to have a big bells and whistles update to dnn3, but will not be that brave, because the cost for me is time.. I need to spend probably a full week or two on getting my sites organised and I think I'll take the gradual path - and am now looking at module developers who I know will be around for 3 and in the future and use their modules.
EG .. Inventua - Anthony & Matthew are two smart guys - and they have their Side Menu module working in 3 and will be releasing it after it's been tested on the final candidate. I know that Mark Hoskins has his modules upgraded to 3 now and they are in his site - really smart guy and I'm looking at skinning at as well.
I tried the Catalook store for 3, in my 3.08 install but no go. It was a bit a naughty, actually I could have taken in out and slapped it! I don't think you can imagine how many DotNetNuke installs I have.. it's getting a bit confusing and now Kirsty will be setting up an xls sheet to keep track of them.. I'm too embarrassed to say!!!
I spent the day today working on my skinning site, module site, and.. turning my site into a 100% width portal and see how that works with everyone - and I must say - having a 17” monitor - with 1280 res (and my 15” CRT for checking) - well the structure of the site seems to work well. I just have to come up with a nice look for it.. as it won't be quite the same as this one.
So there you have a day in the life of.... I slept in, sent my daughter's cats back home, watched in sadness and dismay, the Tsunami (one of my greatest fears I think) and watch a mindless dvd, so I could think clearly.... OK, and did some housework - and .. got the music to work on my walkman and packed away the Christmas tree that didn't quite get as fully decorated as last year because I had to share the decorations with the family!
Today I listened to some cool music -
- Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits
- Sam Cooke Greatest Hits
- Swingtime Hits from 1940 - 1949
One thing I have found is that DotNetNuke has surely put me in contact with some wonderful people and I feel like my whole world has been broadened as I meet and talk with people from so many places.
Thanks for your patience, sorry for those I am slack at emailing - you can bug me.. I just forget to hit the reply button or I have lots of mail in drafts as I get sidetracked with phone calls, tech stuff and holiday cheer.
The very moment I have more news about DNN, I'll be posting it here.. that's for sure.
Cheers from Nina
