I put this survey up a couple of days ago (registered users only) and it's interesting to see that most of us are simply waiting for the final release before we jump into the launching out DotNetNuke 3 sites, and that's regardless of the amount of modules that will be available.

It's also quite refreshing to see that the functionality of DotNetNuke is becoming more refined, and as I speak with several developers, I see more maturity in the type of modules, things that were once separate, now being incorporate into the core application.  This leads me on to other thoughts like - well, if it's all going to be open source, how can it be perpetually supported if there is nothing left for us to even consider selling.  And then, someone comes up with an idea or something that isn't dnn and been able to port across into the DotNetNuke application, and the modules are so varied, that I'm astounded that the uptake of really good ideas has been so high.

Sometimes I wonder if it's because it's been around for a few years now, or because we've attracted Microsoft's interest, or that the momentum is growing because of the some great sites out there now, or the fortune of a good leader (Shaun Walker) who has had the extraordinary vision of an open source product that is a commercial option for some large companies.  I've done some work on Fortune 500 companies, which I can't divulge, due to NDA's, and fair enough I guess, as they don't want everyong knowing their secrets, but before long, I'm sure we're going to see some of these large companies proudly displaying they are running on a DotNetNuke platform.

Today I was talking with a client of mine, he mentioned how his department was running DotNetNuke 1.10e on their network, which he felt was amazing, because we're talking about an area in the Department of Defence who have found DotNetNuke a very good opensource product to use and it's just rocking on.. Not sure if they'll be upgrading to 3, and if it's customised and working for them, why would you upgrade anyway.  It was simply more confirmation that DotNetNuke has a wide variety of purposes, and as it matures, it's functionality and suitability for many environments continues to grow.

It's also good to see in the core team forum, alot of effort is being made to keep up with the forums and bugs posted in Gemini and as everyone appears to have come back to work, and the work crisis seem to be lived through, and some old faces are popping back into the scene.  And the great suggestions, solutions and enchancements from the general public is well received too and I know there are some of the solutions to bugs that have been posted by non core team members have been gladly received and quickly added to builds and Gemini is being updated regularly too, so as we chip away at all this, run over time because it was a bigger project than anticipated, it's looking more solid each time we get a new release.

Well this week my Western Digital 80gb drive with 4 partitions, cooked and went to heaven... thank goodness for backups.. the losses were minor.. but the high pitched noise from the drive was really annoying, and it was hot hot hot..  Our network is not quite setup, but getting there, I can only do so much in a day.

My kittens are so lovely- naughty but lovely - I'll post some pics on my new site.. I wish the blogs module would work with the Cute Editor - And I've skinned the blogs module for my new site and I'm off to bed.. lots to finish this weekend for valentines day..
