Today was productive, have some new work lined up, still waiting to finish a couple, several new websites and some bigger projects on the go, so juggling things around has been somewhat challenging for me. Was very nice to get a phone call from a client of mine telling me how happy they are and since we made some modifications on their application, with other developers, they've had no troubles at all and they love being hosted on my server. That was nice to hear because I've got to the stage where the hosting becoming quite specialised and turning all clients to dnn infrastructure and will move all non dnn clients from my server onto another one.
On to the time and localisation - http://www.dnnbeta.com - I have installed dll and the file managing the skinobject, so that the time can be managed at portal level. It's still in beta, not sure if it's going to hit the release, but will work on convincing someone that we need to have this available as an enchancement. Primarily it's a global setting for time, so that you're not reading from the SQL time and can have time managed by server/host level. I saw talk in the core team forum about it being set as user/portal/host methods, but cannot quantify right now.
Basically it means if I have time set in AU, if you are in Hawaii, (lucky you) then the time displayed is still Australian time. This suits me because I know that people often have no idea that we're way ahead of the rest of the world time wise.
I'm doing the updating of the skinning documentation for 3. That should be a bit of learning for me, and the files will also be compiled into an exe or chm file for ease of use. But those files will only be available from my site - it's an enhancement, and the skinning documentation will be in the documents folder as a word doc, following the current theme.
Did a couple of module reviews, still working on the format - I think it's quite acceptable. And still jigging some of the files around in reference to the URLS, and could not for the life of me work out why on earth I couldn't see some files. It was to do with the friendly urls, and duplicate names. It keeps taking me back to the home page, until it dawned on me not to have duplicate tab names when using friendly urls.
Still catching up on some email.. and reviewing some new sites to do, and Kirsty is doing alot of work in reference to creating some Catalook documentation - so that we can provide our clients with easy to follow steps on how to use this excellent product.
My file server is turned off atm.. the noise from the fan is unbelievable.. thank goodness we had not completed the DHCP and gateway work otherwise we'd be sitting in office with ear muffs on..
The forums have been busy with complaining people I have noticed and some persistent threads about dnn, and the fact we're all too slow, all I can say is when it's released, all will be forgiven and forgotten and I'm still working on many new projects where 2.1.2 will be the go because it's a great product. It's only when I get onto the ease of creating sites that I find it's way behind 3 in the administration of it.
My next lot of articles will be published soon, I have to really go through and do some editing/proofreading and put them into categories. Will be looking at differences between 2 & 3 in reference to skinning. I am also focussing on the skinning store - with the forum and can't wait to get that going.. I have some columnists already keen to participate and regular news and features.. I was going to put this on xd, but really want a separate, skinning only environment where I can put resources and have other developers/designers who are active participants the space to show some of their talents.
I also noticed today as I was packing the skins, there are a couple that need some more care and work to get better netscape viewing. Bit of a shame as the menu will need to change quite a bit, but I suppose I could package both skins. Now that IE 7 is a going to be a reality this year I'm wondering what other surprises we'll have.
I've put in pictures of my puddy tats.. I love them.. If anyone ever told me that cats could be good therapy - I'd say - no way, but thanks to Belinda (my daughter) who is the research queen when it comes to anything... she's got two tonkinese cats, and we bought two tonkinese kittens.. Tiger & Lily- I've mentioned them before and they just give me some great time out to pat them and think about things.. It's really hard keeping up with DNN sometimes.. and I feel there are alot of people waiting on me for either work, answers, ideas, skins, stores, help, you name it.. they're asking, so often I need to have some think time.. They sleep on top of the monitors - in Tonk Piles - on top of each other, but it's getting harder as they get bigger.
That's about it for now - I'm out of here.. 2am still awake.. but not for long.
