Holy Moly - Today was such a busy day- have 7am meeting, then get back in time for 10am chat, which covered several things including the ongoing fixes with FURLS (Friendly Urls) and how it affects browsers, localisation and such. Not being a coder, I can't give exact details on what their results / outcomes are, sorry, but it's good to know that their constantly checking the forums and going through the process of bugs at quite a rate. But there has been quite a bit of intensive work on the friendly URLS and how to catch some of the common errors.
I have had a few people email me about the issues with containers, they want them smaller, or not at all, so I will be putting forward a smaller sleeker container, maybe as an add on, but at the very least, available for download from my site after the final release.
The discussion of single style css files came up again i'm still not convinced it's the way to go. Each person puts their ideas and reasons forward and you get a much better perspective on how people think and their purpose behind their suggestions/enhancements.
At this stage, it's all for the future though because there's pretty much a freeze on code and testing testing testing is being hammered home alright - and the test site is getting a bit of a work out. I havent' looked at Gemini yet, but will be updating my work as I get it finished. I'm feeling the pressure in what I'm doing, and I can well imagine how some of the others are doing. Shaun has kept this whole project together exceptionally well without it falling off the rails, no matter how we tried to knock it around.
I dare say after this RC some of us will probably take a few days off. I mean it literally takes over your life while sorting out bugs in particular. It's really easy to come up with ideas, but difficult to test them thoroughly because you need different eyes and hands onto the project to look at things from a different perspective.
In more reference to the new skinning documents - you'll find they are pretty much the same, but with the extra skin objects found in the containers, the search and tree view menu with some classes. I've modified it already but this will be an add on when DNN3 is released.
The reason I keep it this way is because alot of things I just haven't had time to finish due to the normal day to day work committments and the work I'm doing now. Today was a good example - I have the skinning doc for 2.1.2 now done as an exe, and sent off to a few people to beta test and get some feedback. I think it will be ready to release tomorrow and it will have a couple of extra features in it to help convert a skin to 3 for those who don't know already.
This has put me behind and I do apologise for this. I have been working on some different strategies in keeping people happy and it's a big job.
Well, 1am again, I thought of something last night, but not able to test it yet, and that will bet tomorrow. A client coming around for training isnt well today so that's been delayed so again, will be attempting to get things finished. I can't work out if I'm just having a blonde moment or if this is actually hard work - the things I find the hardest are chopping and changing between files and different projects. I like to work from start to finish, but not always able to - due to the nature of the work, or maybe waiting for confirmation on a few things.
Nevertheless - working away here and trying to get some client stuff done which is also very important to me. Or the wheels fall off.
Thanks for tuning in- New Skins - Design Away - dnn3 - on Thursday.
