Loosen up for goodness sake and GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT.

Check this post out... and note these words - We do ask all of our Project Leads - LEADS.. that's a big difference to being just part of the team isn't it... and guess who was the LEAD on the compression project .. Ben Lowery - the person elevated to Project Lead status without wanting to be there, never responnding to email and that's why the project sat for months with no direction or guidance even after many email between the Project MEMBERS to change the status to get the project going. Get that guys - John Mitchell was NEVER a LEAD. He was a Project MEMBER.

Now to lock that post simply amazes me...

The offending LOCKED post - Locked by the DNN Board to 'protect the community'

I offered to integrate PageBlaster technology into the core when I was on the core team, but it was rejected because I have another commercial module with the same technology.

For the sake of clarification only...

Any substantial (largely complete) code contribution to DotNetNuke must be accompanied by a "Software Grant".  Essentially, this provides for the ability to have dual copyright by both the original contributor & DotNetNuke.  This means that the contributor is protected because they can continue to do anything they like with the code without restriction (which includes commercial use).  However it also ensures that it can be included in DotNetNuke without "tarnishing" our BSD license, which protects all users of the DotNetNuke platform.

We do ask all of our Project Leads NOT to engage in commercial development (retail) of DNN applications that are like the project they are responsible for.  This is simply to avoid any appearance or possibility of conflict of interest which might arise from "holding back" on a project due to competition with their own offerings.  However, many of our Project Leads engage in commercial development (retail) of other modules and also enhancement of their projects for custom use, which generally winds up back in the Projects (and provides broad benefit).

I think if you want to make an attempt to hang people out to dry and lock posts so others can't respond here's a tip - get your facts straight so there is no room for error in 'transparent' behaviour.

I'm back and with avengence... and in the coming weeks you're all going to know why.

Hi Dave - you know - and this is not a reflection on the respect I have for Erik (ErikVB) - isn't he project lead on the Announcements Module... And.. he has is own commercial Announcements Module?

What about the UDT module - I'm pretty sure there is a commercial version of UDT as well - which Sebastian (Leupold) manages.

Now I must stress and point out - I've got absolutely no problem with this... I like these guys - I caught up with Sebastian when in Seattle - it was really good to meet him at last and he is a gracious and fun in person and I really really enjoyed spending time with him.

Hi Nina,

It would be nice if all project leads was treated equally. I also have no problem with these people (Erik, Sebastian) having more advanced versions for sale. I can see both sides of the fence on this issue. What I can't see though is why can some do this but not others. I know you may not have the answers to all this. I am not asking your either, just making comment. =)

Cheers,
Dave

I don't know either.

It was just as disheartening in Seattle I never got a chance to talk to the board membmers - Shaun, Scott, Nik and Joe. The completely ignored me the whole time. Their dislike was deafening.

So I was there at the Summit, with them in the same room and not a single word or hello or an attempt to even talk to me was made. I felt so uncomfortable that I couldn't even sit down in the same room.

It was embarrassing for the core teamers who were not able to come up and talk to me in the presence of the board members - they had to wait until they left.

It's always fun what blog searches for your own name turn up.

I'm personally shocked that I'm still listed as the "lead" on the compression project, if I am. I havn't talked to the DNN folks in ages...

Nina,

After all the help people like you & John Mitchell have given to the DotNetNuke community it's disgusting to hear of the treatment you got from the board members! You guys deserve far better then that! Shaun and the likes put themselves on a pedestal that some of use don't see them on. Arrogance has always been the likes of Shaun Walker though, and he acts the part well!
